Hidalgo ISD Athletic Director and Head Football Coach, Monty Stumbaugh announced his retirement for the end of the 2022 – 2023 school year.

Coach Stumbaugh joined Hidalgo ISD in the Spring of 2017. During his time at Hidalgo Early College High School, Stumbaugh led the Pirate Football Team to three straight playoff appearances, including a district championship during the 2020 season. The last time the Pirate Football Team won a district championship was in the 2012 season. Under his leadership as an Athletic Director, Coach Stumbaugh revamped our entire athletic program, bringing stability and growth to our student athletes.

“Coach Stumbaugh has done a remarkable job here at Hidalgo ISD,” said Albert Guerra, HISD Executive Director for Human Resources & Operations. “We are very thankful for him turning around our athletic program and our Pirate Football Team with three straight playoff appearances. We wish him well in his retirement and in everything he has planned for in his near future.”

Coach Stumbaugh will be missed by our entire community. The search is underway for a new Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Hidalgo ISD.
